Program Information
A 3-week intensive program preparing 100 underrepresented students for engineering and computing careers with training, coaching, and apprenticeship connections.
How is this project reaching high-priority or underserved student populations?
The plan is to fully implement this project in Summer 2026 (June and July 2026). As of now, we have begun planning by identifying local community programs and high schools to find students who match our MESA eligibility indicators.
The goal is to create a summer boot camp for surrounding students—specifically underserved students who are not yet American River College students and are therefore ineligible to be served by the MESA grant. By serving students who meet MESA indicators (low-income and first-generation) through this grant, we will strengthen the pipeline for students outside our organization to build confidence in STEM pathways. We already have a proven model for serving students in STEM, and this boot camp will allow us to duplicate much of that support over the summer.
Looking Ahead
Much of this work will be tracked after these K-12 Collaborative grant participants enroll at ARC and in MESA. We will compare their success throughout college to that of students who did not participate in the K-12 Collaborative summer boot camp, continuing to showcase the impact a program like this can have.
