About this project
Aimed at increasing college-going and university transfer rates for dual enrollment students, this project targets juniors and seniors participating in dual enrollment at Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) and Nevada Joint Union High School District (NJUHSD). By identifying students who did not yet have clear college plans, the project provides opportunities to visit LTCC, CSUS, and UC Davis — helping students clarify their college and career plans and ultimately improving dual enrollment participation and college graduation rates.
The two high schools involved, South Tahoe High School (STHS) and Nevada Union High School (NUHS), serve high numbers of students of color and socio-economically disadvantaged students. At STHS, 48% identify as Hispanic/Latinx and 58% are socio-economically disadvantaged; at NUHS, 29% are minoritized students and 39.9% are socio-economically disadvantaged.
The field trips funded by this grant have not yet taken place, but they will be the first college visits offered to these students, with hopes to continue them in future years.
